BUPROPRION
What is Bupropion?
Bupropion medication has been indicated for the treatment of a number
of medical conditions including depression, smoke cessation, sexual
dysfunction, anxiety disorder and obesity. It is available under a
variety of brand names including Wellbutrin (including Wellbutrin
SR and Wellbutrin XL) and Zyban. Bupropion works by increasing certain
types of activity in the brain.
Notable fact: In 2006 Bupropion was the fourth most prescribed antidepressant
on the U.S. retail market.
WELLBUTRIN SR
Wellbutrin SR is approved for the treatment of depression in adults.
It is the Bupropion formulation developed for twice daily dosing

WELLBUTRIN XL
Wellbutrin XL (bupropion HCl extended-release tablets) is the Bupropion
formulation developed for once-daily dosing. Wellbutrin XL is typically
used to treat adults with a certain type of depression called major
depressive disorder, and for the prevention of autumn-winter seasonal
depression (seasonal affective disorder).
Zyban
Zyban is marketed by Glaxo-Wellcome, and has been used, very successfully,
to treat nicotine addiction directly. Unlike other anti-smoking
agents which supply an alternative source of nicotine other than
cigarettes, Zyban works at the neurological level, reducing the
craving for nicotine in any form.
